The Lebanese singer Fairuz has been a living legend from Iraq to Morocco for half a century. Her hometown is Beirut. This was once a prosperous port city - 'the Paris of the Middle East' - and a haven for people of all religious and ethnic backgrounds. But from 1975 the idyll was shattered by a 15-year civil war. Fairuz has lived in Beirut all this time and everyone - Christians, Muslims, left or right, every party that wanted the other's life - continued to love that one singer dearly. The film is about the love of different inhabitants of Beirut for this diva Fairuz. Through the music and the myth of Fairuz, they tell about their lives and the eventful history of their city. Lost love and unfulfilled desire resound in Fairuz's music.
