Das Wunder von Bern plot
Summer 1954. The Soviet Union sends the prisoners of war home. Among them is the father (Richard) of a quiet football enthusiast, 11-year-old Matthias, who lives with his mother, sister and brother in Essen. The boy has found a surrogate father in soccer player Helmut Rahn who has adopted him as a mascot. His father's return casts a shadow over the otherwise happy family. Broken by the years of captivity, Richard has trouble adjusting to today's world. So football is meaningless to him, but his son wants so much to go to the World Cup in Bern, so...
