Despite the fact that this film is now 60 years old and also dated, it remains a great film. The story is well put together and also knows how to captivate and moreover there is also the necessary humor (a bit bland and dated). The execution (including the visual part) was also good and the same goes for the cast. I actually couldn't hear anyone from the cast but that Sig Ruman as the German Sgt. I liked playing Johann Sebastian Schulz. I personally find the film a bit on the long side at exactly 120 minutes, but to be honest it was never really boring or annoying.

PS that Robert Strauss as 'Animal', could well be the father / grandfather of Javier Bardem because he looked a lot like that

Not one of Billy Wilder's better films, with occasional very bland humor, but pleasant enough. William Holden is fine as the suspected collaborationist prisoner of war who must prove his innocence. The rather naive portrayal of camp life is on the disturbing side, but hey, it's a comedy, so we have to take everything with a grain of salt. There are a few laughs here and there and the cast is mostly on a roll. As the end draws near, the plot actually gets pretty exciting.
