I can understand that people are less positive about this part than the first. If the estimated amounts are true, then the budget of this film is 7% as that of the first part. Part two is therefore less spectacular and much less grand in design. But a lot of people can easily go overboard in the negative.

The Hero of the Federation has little to do with the first part. There are no grandiose battles or absurd, but hilarious situations. The set-up is more reminiscent of a horror/SF movie. The atmosphere is reminiscent of movies of the same genre from the 80s. The story from the first part flies from one place to another, as it takes place largely in and around a fortress that is constantly in a kind of sandstorm. We see the familiar bugs reappear, but also some new ones. Another addition are the soldiers with psychic powers. A bit redundant in my opinion. After a while the story loses some power, but it is nicely captured by the present gore. Again, if you know what you're getting into, this is a pretty fun movie. The insects certainly don't look bad.

The acting is definitely better than in the predecessor. In any case, we don't have to look at the absurdly bad work of Casper van Dien or Denise Richards. Someone like Richard Burgi is not a great actor, but without a doubt better than the two previous names. The music is a bit odd, because it fits better with a war movie from the 60s. A flop 100 quote seems inevitable, but in my opinion is quite unjustified.

Exciting and dark space adventure

Too bad he's so underrated here.

The oppressive atmosphere, that deserted outpost, really all so atmospheric.

I also really like the story and acting.

It's not as bombastic and action-packed as the first part, but all the more exciting.

After watching several times I can conclude that I love this movie

Mediocre sequel.

Original by Verhoeven is really great, and is even in my top 10. This made me really looking forward to part 2 of the series, but indeed as the flop indicates, it is not too good. It clearly lacks the direction of Verhoeven a bit.

The satire and propaganda has been wiped out in this part and it's become pure Action/Science Fiction, which the film didn't exactly do well. The real magic is over, but the story itself is disappointing. While part 1 still showed nice insect-splattering fights, that's just another Mystery-like story here.

That story simply does not fit in the series, and so the result is actually quite mediocre. I don't think it's flop level, because there's enough action in it to keep it interesting enough. Good, definitely not, but not terribly bad either.
