Hahaha, what nonsense. I started the challenge with a quality video: Leprechaun 4: In Space. If you are now thinking, Leprechaun in space, how is that so? - then that's a very good question. The first three Leprechauns, despite weak backstories, are set on Earth, in contemporary America. And of course they are mediocre films, not really scary, not really funny, not really charming, but still surprisingly watchable. Leprechaun 4 is somewhat the beginning of the transition to complete crap, as Leprechaun in the Hood would eventually become. At many moments it's too bland for words, but still fun every now and then.

Anyway, the Leprechaun is now in space. Why and how, it doesn't matter, he has suddenly become some kind of space gnome without a backstory. With lightsaber of course. With equally little backstory, he has kidnapped a spoiled brat as a princess, and for equally unclear reasons there is a group of space marines (with the cliché tough commander, the cliché beautiful wench as a doctor, the cliché crazy scientist/Nazi with a German accent). hunting for him. Well, at some point some attempts at plot are explained. Not that it makes any sense, but hey, you don't have to watch these kinds of films for the story. This is usually the case, especially with the Leprechauns, and it also has something to do with the fact that they simply throw all (internal) logic and background out the window. In the end, the film just imitates Alien, but with lousy actors playing over-the-top cliche characters and little logic, with some lame jokes, pop culture references and Warwick Davis as Leprechaun added. And sure enough, that entertainment still works occasionally (and often not), and as a light-hearted comedy and terrible B-movie it is still survivable.

As ridiculous as the title suggests, you have to hand that to the makers. Initially it is still entertaining to see Lieutenant Gruber doing an imitation of Herr Flick, but that also quickly becomes boring. A cheaply made piece of junk that desperately tries to be funny. Too bad the humor is so stale that there is hardly anything to laugh about. How sad the scenario is is evident from the fact that the Leprechaun no longer even speaks in rhyme! Warwick Davis is saddled with banal one-liners this time and his performance is disappointing for the first time in this series. Not that it matters much, by the way.

Director Brian Trenchard-Smith follows the trend of a horror series moving the action to space. It has rarely turned out really well and Leprechaun is no exception. It doesn't exactly work in the film's favor when Warwick Davis is the only name who can act a little. The rest of the stuff is not convincing for a single moment, so that almost any form of humor immediately falls into the water. The content is otherwise what you would expect. Creative, but unimpressive kills and a slightly larger-scale finale to create the illusion that there were enough money. This part doesn't add much to the series, but neither did the two predecessors.
