I can still remember a few things very well from this film, but apart from those few scenes, nothing at all...

I remember a thrilling scene with the words ... the red bull came right after them...

So, not much else. Time to watch it again with my kids.

Mwa.

I'm obviously seeing a film like The Last Unicorn far too late. These kinds of films should probably benefit from a nostalgic edge, but this one completely passed me by. Despite this, I got the chance to see it and decided to watch it, especially since it has quite a reputation.

The animation has become quite dated and even somewhat strange. While there are often some interesting technical highlights, The Last Unicorn is essentially stagnant from start to finish. The lack of creative elements and stylistic exercises doom the film, making it never truly rewarding to watch.

A very competent voice cast here, giving each character a face. Not that they're all that well-developed, but the bond between the unicorn and the characters is palpable. The film certainly doesn't lack for cute moments, however clichéd they may be. That's just part of it, and the film manages to hold its own in that respect.

Other than that, it didn't make much of an impression and didn't leave much of an impression. Perhaps it all resonates more deeply if you saw it as a child, and I can certainly imagine that, but I'm not really surprised by it anymore. Because it's a cute and entertaining film, I'm giving it a 2.5* rating, but I didn't find it brilliant at all.

It's something different from Disney, with a different stitching style, a fairytale atmosphere, but it's all a bit too childish, the animation is good enough but very simple, furthermore a somewhat vague story without much depth.

However, hand-drawn animation always adds atmosphere that is not possible with computer animation and CGI.
