Just like with Ice Age, this series goes on for far too long. To be honest, I don't think it's a strong series of films anyway. Part 1 was doable, but after that it became more and more nonsensical, with too little fun humor. I saw this third one on Film1 otherwise I would have ignored it. Good animation though, Simmons is an asset as a voice actor, but then you've really had the most positive. More of the same indeed and unfortunately less is more is not for the makers. We get to see a record number of pandas and, as they themselves remark, they all look alike! Seems to still be a fairly large target group that still really likes it (7.2 as an average on IMDB...). Everyone has their own thing and they have my victory, but I found it especially tiring.

Visually nice again with sometimes some sketchy images, beautiful backgrounds and fine use of color. Just also animated with just a little more creativity than to be as natural as possible. But plot-wise it is a very thin animal and then the film has to rely on separate scenes. Sometimes great moments, but often also a somewhat childish humor. It doesn't get really fun or exciting anywhere, but after 2 previous films there is a bit of recognition with all the characters and that is also nice. Although that does not make up for the film itself, which does not constantly manage to keep the attention. 2.5*.

Remains faint.

It's a shame, because you notice that they could have pushed this much further visually. Some other visual styles seep in here and there, but in the end the film always slavishly returns to the classic American CG look. It's a shame they don't even show a little more daring at Dreamworks, especially because they always lose out to Disney/PIxar in terms of popularity.

The plot and tone could have been a lot nicer. A little more focus on fantasy and action would have done the film well, especially if the comic had been abandoned as well. The characters and humor in these films are really unbearable, it's all very childish, very bland and above all, nowhere funny at all.

It's a series that could easily have been a lot more fun, but then they just have to let go of the classic animation recipe in America. The same kind of film has been served there for 25 years, with hardly any variation in effect. This one is certainly not the worst in the Kung Fu Panda series, but it's not much else.

1.5*
