The Gorges du Verdon is an exceptional natural area in southeastern France, and is sometimes called the Grand Canyon of Europe. The gorge only became truly spectacular due to what man did to it. In a span of twenty years, five gigantic dams were built that tamed the wild river and even created the fourth largest lake in France.
