Bakudan plot

A mysterious middle-aged man assaults a shop assistant under the influence of alcohol and is arrested by the police. He calls himself Suzuki Tagosaku and claims to have intuition that bombs have been planted in Tokyo. He predicts that after an explosion in Akihabara, three more will occur, all an hour apart. After the first explosion, negotiator Ruike decides to confront him.

Strong thriller. The story is quite well put together and also has a socially critical perspective. The execution is very good despite the limited setting. What begins as a lighthearted interrogation following an arrest transforms throughout the film into a rock-solid cat-and-mouse game in which all sorts of things come to light. The tension is skillfully built up, and as a viewer, you are drawn into the film. The film is carried by the actors, with Sato standing out far above the rest and delivering a very convincing performance. Visually otherwise fine. A fine film. 4.0
