In La Paz, the orphaned thirteen-year-old Martín works as a shoe shiner. Thanks to an acquaintance, he finds shelter with a rich woman and occasionally goes to school. One day he shines the shoes of the lonely tailor Novoa. Martín decides to steal his dog in the hope of getting a reward.
