Das Schiffbruch-Triptychon plot
To be shipwrecked is to be banished to the margins of human existence, to be able to function freely, to struggle with the fickle bonds between society, institutions and individuals. In this anthology, Deniz Eroglu explores the concept of shipwreck through three stylistically and narratively independent parts. In 'Mutiny' we follow the daily routines of an isolated nursing home on New Year's Eve, where the apathetic staff throws a party while the residents sleep – except for one, who seeks connection in his own unique way. In 'Boarding', a corrupt official visits a family of Congolese refugees, ostensibly to check on the welfare of the children. 'Drifting' is set in the Middle Ages in the European countryside, where the outcast of a wandering group searches for meaning, purpose and ways to survive on the wild plains and in the eerie forest.
