Street Trash plot

In Cape Town, South Africa, the world has changed dramatically due to the growing gap between the poor and the rich. A group of homeless outcasts discover a plot to wipe out all the homeless in the city. They decide to join forces to fight and survive together.

Grotesque nonsense spread over 85 minutes, but highly entertaining nonsense nonetheless. Director Ryan Kruger certainly has a clear affinity for concepts bordering on the absurd and is given the space to do so. This results in a strongly constructed world that sometimes tries too hard to be weird, but boasts a thundering final half hour. In between, however, there's not much going on, with a handful of actors who don't put in much of a show. To grab the viewer's attention, Kruger occasionally interjects a far-fetched scene in which victims "melt," without it effectively integrating into the overall picture. Especially satirically, it's all rather simple and childish, but Street Trash truly comes to life in an action-packed, energetic, and refreshingly practical finale.
