Marilyn, trying to stay young, decides to remarry two months after her husband's death. She invites her college friends Kitty, Alice and Lou to be bridesmaids. The three ladies, who are all stuck at a difficult point in their lives, deal with growing older differently. However, they decide to travel to the surprise wedding in Florida. During the journey, their sisterhood is rekindled, the past resurfaces, and they encounter romance that changes their lives in unexpected ways.

Six months after her husband's death, Marilyn [Bette Midler] remarries. She hopes that her college friends Kitty [Sheryl Lee Ralph] and Alice [Megan Mullally] will be able to convince Lou [Susan Sarandon] to attend. Marilyn and Lou have old grievances, so Kitty and Alice come up with a plan. It works, but it's only a matter of time before Lou discovers she's been lied to. Formulaic ensemble comedy relies heavily on Midler and Sarandon, and they do what they have to do. Light comedy with a cameo by the mummified Michael Bolton, and yes, it ends with a group dance.
