Home Alone 2: Lost in New York plot

"He's up past his bedtime in the city that never sleeps."

The McAllister family goes on vacation again, this time to Florida. However, Kevin becomes isolated from the rest of the family again, and accidentally ends up on a plane to New York. Luckily for him, he has his father's credit card with him, and he decides to take it easy. However, the burglars from the previous film are free again, and this time they aim to rob a large toy store. Kevin tries again to put a stop to this.

Merry Christmas, you filthy animal.

Like the first part, I last saw this movie more than 10 years, maybe even more than 15 years ago. I didn't remember much about it, except that Trump had a cameo, because the filming took place in one of his hotels.

In short, apart from the setting, this is a direct copy of the first part. Exactly the same pattern: boy loses family, meets scary person, has a wise life lesson for the scary person, encounters bandits, defends with booby traps, ends up being grabbed by the bandits, but saved by the scary person.[ /spoiler]. And this film also shows a fragment of a fictional film. In the first film it was Angels with Filthy Souls, apparently a parody of Angels with Dirty Faces. The above quote is from the fictional movie in this movie, Angels with Even Filthier Souls a sequel to the fictional movie from the first part. Because of the repetition exercise the highlight of the film, which is of course not really a recommendation. 1*.

This Christmas movie is a bit childish but quite fun. The Christmas carols and the images of the lights in the streets and on the houses, especially that big toy store, all very pleasant.

The situation of a child who stays alone at a hotel with a bag full of money, more could have been done. By the way, Tim Curry seems a bit too cartoonish to me. The meeting with the 'crazy' pigeon woman and the corny message of friendship and daring to open your heart to love, is bearable in this Christmas season.

But the best part is of course the hunt of the stupid villain duo on Kevin in his uncle's house. The booby traps are quite painful and the fact that they don't sustain any permanent damage and keep chasing Kevin is reminiscent of the old Tom & Jerry cartoons.
