Somewhat nonsensical thriller film in which the sharks barely play a role. In any case, you will have to stroll through a 30-minute run to get to any kind of tension, which then barely comes to fruition. Fortunately, the five ladies don't do a bad job and director Hayley Easton Street cleverly chooses an exotic setting (The Dominican Republic), but the real thriller elements are only revealed in the last 15 minutes. Too much sentiment and not enough pace ruin Something in the Water, so that even a visit to the cinema threatens to end up in old-fashioned time-watching. Points for the acting, the location choices and the last fifteen minutes, but shark movie fans will find few surprises here.

Shot on a very low budget I think. That doesn't have to be a problem in itself, except that from 20 minutes on there are whole episodes where little happens and little is seen. Too much more of the same. Not that the film is boring per se (that's not possible with such a short running time) but the film just doesn't manage to interest. Also because the acting varies quite a bit and the characters remain very flat. The fact that a number of women also die didn't do anything for me either. 2.5*.
