Oasis of Now plot

A mother and daughter meet secretly every few weeks on a remote staircase in an old apartment building. The mother, an undocumented Vietnamese in Malaysia, believes her daughter's best future lies in living with a Malaysian family separated from her. Although they live in the same neighborhood, they pass each other every day as strangers. The mother takes on various odd jobs in the neighborhood to support herself and takes refuge in the home of an unknown elderly person to escape immigration controls.
