Hokkaido, the end of the Meiji period. Saichi Sugimoto was a hero known as Sugimoto the Immortal during the war between Japan and Russia. The ex-soldier tries to keep a promise by searching for a fortune in gold nuggets that belonged to the indigenous Aino people.
