"ROMANCE - MUSIC - COMEDY of SHOWBOAT DAYS!"
The song "Oh, Susannah" becomes a national hit in 1849, but its writer, the humble accountant Stephen Foster, has failed to properly protect the rights, so everyone and everyone makes off with it. His great love, the classical singer Inez McDowell, has nothing to do with popular songs, but when the famous showman Edwin P. Christie comes to her friend's aid, recognition finally comes, which, however, does not benefit their relationship.
