"There's no point in praying."
Brothers Pedro and Jimmy discover an epidemic of demonic possession in their community. The culprit may be in a nearby farm. When they find a possessed victim and try to help it, they do not follow the proper exorcism rituals. Due to their reckless action, many other people are also possessed by demons. Now the brothers must not only evade an encroaching evil, they must also enlist the help of the one person who can stop the supernatural plague.

After the strong and especially scary Aterrados from 2017, this is a slight disappointment from Argentinian director Demián Rugna, although this time there is also quite a bit of horror and the film has some quite disturbing scenes. The first hour is very strong, but then things unfortunately drop off a bit towards the finale. Too bad, because there would certainly have been more residents here. Nevertheless, Rugna is definitely a talent to keep an eye on.

When Evil Lurks
What kind of movie was this again?
This film barely needed a build-up and started straight away with the 2 brothers hearing shots outside at night and discovering the next morning that someone in their community appears to be possessed. The film had a nice pace and was really fun for the first hour, but after that it unfortunately slowed down a bit and became increasingly vague.
There were some really cool and gross scenes, for example when they want to move the first possessed person. I didn't touch the bag of chips next to me during this scene, bah bah that's gross. The scenes with the goat and Pedro's daughter with the dog were also great.
Furthermore, the atmosphere throughout the film was dark and often gloomy. I was especially positively surprised by the good acting. Somehow, some Spanish-language films come across much more naturally than English films. Maybe that's why I thought they acted so well, haha.
Ultimately, I'm left with a feeling that joolstein also talked about in his review: what have I been looking at? Once again it's a shame that towards the end it wasn't very exciting anymore and it became quite vague.

I've had this in my possession for a while, but with all the stress of choice too
Very nice mystery horror film made in Argentina. I liked the atmosphere almost immediately and the setting was also a match. Also good to very good performances, including the brothers Pedro and Jimmy.
Also released by Shudder, alternating with wonderful top stuff (including the last 2 seasons of the Slasher series and mediocre works.
