Les Nouveaux Messieurs plot

Gaillac is an electrician employed by the Paris Opera. He is in love with the beautiful ballerina Suzanne, but has to lose out to Suzanne's wealthy "patron", the powerful politician Count Montoire. When the Opera staff goes on strike, Gaillac is appointed leader of the strikers. He does his job so well that he is eventually elected Secretary of Labor in the French cabinet. Now on an equal footing with Montoire, Gaillac is finally a "worthy" suitor for Suzanne.
