The A.B.C. of Love plot

Playwright Harry Bryant sees the orphan Kate on a white horse during a car ride in a rural area. He is so charmed that he arranges for her to work at a nearby inn. Unable to bear the cruelty of the innkeepers, Kate runs away and visits Harry at his home in the Story Brook farm. Charmed by her youthful exuberance, Harry falls in love with the uneducated girl and they marry. However, Harry soon becomes disillusioned with his illiterate wife and seeks comfort from his former sweetheart Diana Nelson. When he discovers that Diana is using him to further her social ambitions, Harry returns to Kate, who provokes his jealousy by paying a daily visit to a mysterious apartment complex. When he discovers that Kate's secret tryst was with her mentor, Harry's love for his wife is rekindled.
