Ella Rumpf, Jules Frison, and also old acquaintance Jean-Pierre Darroussin (husband of director Anna Novion) are very good in their acting in this all-in-one likeable and successful film, which apparently was excellently prepared (the mathematical formulas on the board have meaning and are not just pulled out of thin air).
That the extreme passion for "les mathématiques" would eventually give way to love is no surprise, but that too was skillfully prepared in the film... so that, why not, both can live on side by side.
To happiness.
