Emre [Selahattin Pasali] has been appointed as the Open Prosecutor in Yaniklar, a village in northwestern Turkey. At the precipice of a gorge, Judge Zeynep [Sein Yeminci] urges him to take into account cultural differences between this village and the proverbial big city. After a heady boar hunt through the village, Emre invites two involved. Lawyer and son of the mayor Sahin [Erol Babaoglu] and dentist Kemal [Erdem Senoak] want to put syrup on Emre's mouth. They persuade Emre to spend a night eating, drinking and partying with them. The evening spirals out of control and a blackout causes Emre to be unsure of his own involvement in what happened. First he relies on Murat [Ekin Koç], the owner of a local newspaper who is critical of the current mayor. Until Emre begins to remember more and more fragments of fateful night. Alper knows how to keep you in the dark for a long time about the true intentions of Sahin, Kemal and Murat, so that (like Emre) you often don't know whether to chuckle or shiver. The result is an atmospheric, exciting thriller that unfortunately leads to a symbolic, but frustrating denouement.

The film is not very original – we see how an arrogant city boy misjudged the (dark) powers in the traditional countryside, where he becomes the plaything of the local political struggle – but manages to create a sultry atmosphere and pleasantly continue the film. float on the crucial question of what happened on a particular night that determines his fate or that of the local rulers. The film is nicely symmetrical so that the end is in fact already suggested at the beginning, but the film is also a bit long-winded and the middle part in particular drags on without major developments. All in all a nice thriller.

Strong movie. The somewhat contrived and strange variety between genres does not make it a top film, but it is above all a compelling drama/thriller that shows very sharp and ruthless criticism of Turkish politics and society. Burning Days starts as a drama with touches of really cool humor, and gradually turns into a mysterious thriller full of bizarreness, so it should be seen primarily as a cinematic critique and not necessarily taken very seriously become. It certainly reminded me in the second part of Fehér Isten aka White God by Mundruczó, although Burning Days a lot more serious and direct. It is a wonderful insight into the workings of power, corruption and conservatism in Turkey. Through the variation between genres, the viewer gets to endure a whirlwind, and at the end you gasp for breath. Go see this!
