Seventeen-year-old Jem Starling grows up in a strictly Christian community in Kentucky. She asks herself if she is not committing a sin through her passion and involvement in the church dance group. Psychological drama about a teenager who – on her way to adulthood – discovers her sexuality and looks for things that give her life more meaning and joy. This clashes with the values of the ultra-conservative Christian community where she grows up. Possibly because of my annoyance at the ridiculous behavior of the adults, the film did not quite live up to my (perhaps too high) expectations. That does not alter the fact that Eliza Scanlen plays an excellent title role.
