The Roundup plot
"The Beast Cop Is Back!"
It has been four years since Detective Ma Seok-do put an end to the practices of a Chinese loan shark in Seoul. Seok-do and his team are now tasked with bringing a suspect who has fled to Vietnam back to South Korea. In Ho-Chi Minh City, Vietnam, however, they come face to face with Kang Hae-sang, a vicious killer who has kidnapped and killed Koreans and several tourists in exchange for money.

Entertaining sequel to 2017's The Outlaws, this time with Ma Dong-Seok out and about in Vietnam, where he has to bring runaway criminals back to South Korea. The plot gets off to a slow start and the emphasis is initially more on (bland) humor than on action, but in the end it all works out. Gradually the film gains momentum and you can enjoy a lot of nice blunt action scenes. And the bad guys are again well cast this time.

This sequel to The Outlaws (2017) is set in 2008, when detective Ma Seok-do [Ma Dong-seok] travels to Ho Chi Minh with his supervisor Jeon Il-man [Gwi-hwa Choi]. City is sent to retrieve a criminal who has voluntarily turned himself in to the Vietnamese authorities. There, the pair become involved in a cat-and-mouse game between a ruthless criminal [Sukku Son] and the family of one of his victims. Has found the right mix of action, thriller and comedy, especially thanks to Son's strong performance as the villain and the impressive fight scenes, beautifully portrayed by Sung-Lim Ju. The finale in a passenger bus is a worthy denouement of a great crime thriller. Next: The Roundup: No Way Out (2023)
