Three Songs for Benazir plot
Shaista is a young man who has just married Benazir. They live in a refugee camp in Kabul. Shaista struggles to start a family coupled with his dreams of being the first of his tribe to join the National Army of Afghanistan.

An Afghan dream. In the bitterly comedic 'Three Songs for Benazir' (2021), we see that the newly married Shaista wants to offer a better life to his wife Benazir. His impoverished existence in a refugee camp, where the American presence is palpable everywhere, offers him too little prospect. He wants to be the first in his family to join the Afghan national army. But the pressure from his family is immense and the opium fields beckon; Shaista is unable to obtain permission for this. Meanwhile, we see in Shaista primarily a sensitive soul, singing folk songs to comfort his wife and (future) child. A dreamer in a world where men like him have little grip on their own destiny, yet his love for Benazir remains. It gives him the resilience to face difficulties and continue hoping for that long-cherished freedom.
