Very solid.

El Paramo is the new Netflix horror film that unfortunately cannot receive as much appreciation as I have for the film. A pity, because this Spanish work is more than competent and certainly a solid, new addition to the horror film side from Spain. Also one that sticks to the core, always nice to see that.

This movie is very simple in design. You have three characters, which you put in an old setting and outside there is a strange creature walking around. You don't really need much more to start a horror movie. Casademunt tries in vain to give the characters a little depth. The problem is that these things are too poorly thought out anyway, so they don't make an impression.

Nicely decorated and by the second half also quite exciting. Definitely glued to the tube for a while. Scares are a bit weak, but they don't pass in review too often. Be surprised that the average shout around this movie is the word "boring". There is still enough horror present to keep the average viewer captivated, I think.

The atmosphere is good. Perhaps a smoother running pace could have been added to it, but that is only a minor point of criticism. I definitely enjoyed this horror movie. Old-fashioned exciting, nice and attractive and nicely decorated. It wasn't that strong in terms of content and it wasn't really scary either, but it was certainly better than the average horror film.

Carefully filmed and beautifully designed, with a lot of attention to image composition and use of color, but the content of this dark fairy tale is unfortunately on the boring and predictable side. The plot is simply too sparse for an entire movie and there are too few characters. The slow pace doesn't help either. The monster is cool though.

Because of the low scores, I actually wanted to ignore it at first, but after giving this review, I'm glad I ignored that. I actually thought it was a very fascinating film, with a wonderfully dark atmosphere. And this is further proof that a certain minimalism and austerity can certainly win over excess and that pushed style. I find the low score ridiculous, but I also understand it, because people who want monsters, gore and jumpscares are really at the wrong address here. A 7.5/10.
