"Cue the light(ning)!"
It's a cold Halloween night and the Muppets are celebrating. Except Gonzo and Pepe. Gonzo has been invited to an eerie challenge in a haunted mansion. Exactly one hundred years ago, the magician MacGuffin disappeared here under mysterious circumstances. Gonzo and Pepé must escape before dawn or they will be locked up forever.

Funny.
Never been a big fan of The Muppets. Those dolls also passed me a bit in my youth. Left and right I got something from it and even saw some films, but never because the dolls themselves have interested me so much. However, when a Haunted Mansion episode came along I couldn't resist.
This film is characterized by a rather simple interpretation of the story. I don't know the real legend yet, only the attraction in Disneyland and the adaptation in 2003. So I had no idea what this film would do with it, but afterwards they choose a logical path. Messages such as "overcome your fears" are naturally mixed in. The good thing about it is that it never gets in the way of the end result.
Muppets are doing well, supporting roles are successful and there is a pleasant atmosphere. Not that the film gets really scary anywhere, but it is slightly darker than the average dance-and-jump film of the Muppets. Enough fantasy and fun is added in the decoration of the house through which you are discharged through a kind of roller coaster feeling. Add to that a pleasantly short running time and you have a short film that will not bore you for a moment.
It's never super funny, it's always entertaining. Enough creativity in the looks of the whole, it is a pity that they have not used this in terms of content. As far as I'm concerned, just a fun and cozy variant in the doll world that I got through without difficulty. Like this one they can make them more, although that's not entirely fair because the fact of a haunted house automatically gives me some extra points.

Muppets Haunted Mansion hovers between a full-length episode and a short film. With Gonzo at the center, it's someone else again. The glory years of the TV show are long gone and most of the time the movies or new series don't manage to match that charm. Haunted Mansion mainly consists of a whole series of gags and some of them are reminiscent of that old show. The song Darren Criss sang was pretty good. And some jokes did work. But nowhere does it become memorable. Fortunately, it lasts less than an hour, but it mainly looks like a TV special in between.
