"Lost but not alone."
A year after losing his father, Ridley moves with his mother Gloria to Western Australia to live with Ridley's estranged grandfather Spencer. Once there, his grandfather tries to bond with him, but all attempts usually lead to conflict. Ridley soon gets lost deep in the outback on a quest to get home. Braving the remote area, Ridley manages to save a dingo named Buckley from a trap. Together with the dog he tries to get home, not knowing that his grandfather and mother are looking for him.

Cliche party.
Just about all the obligatory parts of the predictable story are ticked off as the story rolls with neat timing to the inevitable end. Well, you don't really watch this kind of film for surprises. Well, for the beautiful pictures in the desert, and for Nighy's solid playing - although he may play a bit on autopilot, that is still completely fine in his case. Burch is also pretty good, and the rest have very little to do. Oh yes, the dog of course. Cute animal.
