Bud Spencer and Terence Hill is my guilty pleasure after all. I do like this duo and saw several of their films as a kid. I can't really remember much about those movies (except for a few like Miami Cops). So it's time to look them up again. This film is still at the beginning of their collaboration and will become the formula of their later films. Some bickering, a lot of fights and the necessary humor.

But this film also works as a spaghetti western. This film is before My name is Nobody, Terence Hill's collaboration with Sergio Leone. Here it is directed by Enzo Barboni, who would later work on the Spencer and Hill films. The film is a bit lighter than the Leone films, but it certainly doesn't fall into the parody trap. It remains a spaghetti western, albeit with comic elements. Franco Micalizzi may be a small shrimp compared to Morricone, but he is certainly not bad. His music fits perfectly with the somewhat comical approach of the spaghetti western.

A great movie and I hope the other Spencer and Hill movies are just as good.

It would make you hungry anyway. How the starving Terence Hill damn that plate/pan is eating kidney beans from the rabbits. I could almost open a jar of Hak. Delicious. 'They Call Me Trinity' is a really nice, atmospheric, light-hearted western. No sign of stress there. The opening scene says it all. Hill who lets his horse ride a bit and stays on the back himself.

The duo Spencer - Hill sometimes makes you wish to be there in the old west while watching. Driving around a bit, sitting in the Saloon, fighting a bit, drinking, eating, forging a simple plan .. and every now and then a bath. Life. Have enjoyed. Lots of nonsensical, but very funny ''fights'', beautiful locations, Spencer's shut ups are hilarious and all in all this is just great fun.

Very mediocre.

I expected more from my first 'Trinity'. Western and comedy is already quite a delicate combination, but it is possible in itself. Rather than funny, it's lighthearted how Terence Hill gets dragged into the film. Typical spaghetti entry, supported by a catchy tune. The lightness does not stand in the way of the charm, on the contrary.

But after a while it all gets a bit patchy. Hill's relationship with his faithful companion Bud Spencer is unfortunately not that interesting, and it takes quite a while before the film is 'set'. The humor then again consists too often of dated and clumsy-looking fistfights - brawls in westerns rarely appeal to me.

So it's just not all. And the positive things like the music, the dusty sets and the wrinkled character heads don't outweigh that.
