Gertten shows how journalists in Uzbekistan are silenced based on the account of Galima Bukharbaeva, who has been living in exile in Sweden since 2005. This documentary begins in the winter of 2016, when Galima tries to set up a campaign for her brother Iskander. He is imprisoned on suspicion of an attack on President Karimov in 1999 (who was still in power there in 2020) and is clearly intended to intimidate Galima and her colleagues. The story is relevant, but not very surprising given the social climate in the countries around Russia and Gertten's visual direction is too sober to convey the urgency of this story.
