A confusing hodgepodge of different premise, all rather forcibly stitched together. In this way, Johnny Z is a zombie film, a martial arts adventure, and a post-apocalyptic bunker story. These approaches work well together on paper, but under director Jonathan Straiton's direction, it never quite gels. There's enough bullets and flying limbs to keep the individual film from getting boring, but after a while, you're constantly confronted with the same old spectacle scenes, interspersed with a bunch of uninteresting characters. Straiton also fails to inject anything unique into his film and presents everything rather chaotically, making the final result feel like over-the-top bravado.
