The Killer plot
Zee is a feared assassin. During an assignment from her shadowy mentor and contact Finn, she refuses to kill a blinded young woman. Her moment of kindness leads to the disintegration of Zee's alliances and attracts the attention of a police detective. Her decision plunges her further into a sinister criminal plot that sets her on a collision course with her own past.

Especially fine cinema entertainment. Everything that is said here about coincidences or credibility is true to a greater or lesser extent but it did not bother me at all in this case. Especially because the film is really fine in terms of action, atmosphere and imagery. Due to the lesser points and especially because the film is really not innovative at all, this is not a new Die Hard but as two hours of entertainment the film certainly suffices.
Especially the first half hour is great in terms of atmosphere. Beautiful warm photography, nice images of Paris, that fuss in that nightclub with the singing. That very high level is not maintained but nevertheless it remains present to a lesser extent. Actors are fine in their roles and the pace is decent, I was not bored for a moment. And Woo still knows how to direct action. It is baroque at times, certainly, but dosed enough to remain fun and captivating.
The last act takes a bit too long and is not very special anymore. That still keeps the film from a really high score. 3.5*.

Nice remake but doesn't quite match the original. The story is practically the same only moved to Paris and a female Killer. The pace is nice and the film is entertaining but rather average. That it is a Woo is clearly noticeable. The pigeons, the church, motorcycles and beautifully shot action scenes including the well-known slowmo's. It all looks very nice and colorful but it is not really memorable. A bit unnecessary. Emmanuel is really nice but has a slightly too sweet appearance for a killer. 3.0/3.5
