Are These Our Children plot

Eddie is a high school student in New York. His parents are deceased and he lives with his grandparents. He abandons his girlfriend Mary and joins another group of friends. He and his new friends indulge in alcohol in jazz clubs and dance halls. They also begin to rob friends of money. Eddie drops out of school and becomes increasingly dependent on alcohol. He doesn't come home often anymore and he spends the nights with his girlfriends. One evening he is out with two friends and he needs a drink. He breaks into an old man, a friend of his grandmother. But the old man refuses to give him the drink.
