After the sudden death of her husband [Nasser Nemarzia], British Muslim woman Mary [Joanna Scanlan] discovers that her husband had an extra-marital relationship with Genevieve [Nathalie Richard], who lived across the English Channel in Calais. Mary decides to confront her supposed rival, but their first meeting doesn't go as expected. Scanlan makes a big impression in this complex, ever-interesting drama about loss, forgiveness and coping with some surprising but believable twists. Feature debut by Khan, who is also responsible for the strong screenplay, with a moving revelation at the end.

The film is about an English woman who discovers after the death of her Pakistani husband that he committed adultery and then goes to that other (French) woman and settles into that family without revealing himself. It mainly gives complex situations and after a while the inevitable confrontation and conflict, after which there is also a reconciliation because both women are victims and are in the same boat (and shaving a baby's head after which the hair comes back stronger perhaps as a metaphor that after the loss the woman(s) come back stronger). I didn't really find it exciting.

Beautiful rendition of Joanna Scanlan - a deserved Bafta Award - who very well captures the succession of emotions that overwhelm her with new revelations.
In sad condition, without winners. Only consolation prizes: Mary because, possibly bizarre, she still finds something of her husband in the son, Genevieve because she clings to the idea that she got the best of Ahmed, Solomon because all the new finally brings clarity .
Beautiful film, which was extremely fascinating and, moreover, was also up to standard cinematically, with beautiful image compositions and a very solid structure.
