The Water Man plot
Gunner shares a special bond with his ailing mother who supports him in his creative pursuits. The relationship with his often absent father Amos is different. When his mother's health deteriorates, Gunner immerses himself in science and the supernatural. He is looking for a cure. With his rebellious girlfriend Jo, he leaves for a mysterious forest.

The fear of losing someone lurks throughout this adventurous drama with a high Disney factor, aimed at teenagers. Gunner Boone discovers that his mother is terminally ill, and after hearing the legend of the Water Man who can cheat death, he sets out to find this mysterious man in the surrounding woods together with the blue-haired girl Jo.
Nicely shot, but the ending was no surprise and ultimately falls a bit short. I had expected something stronger. The ending is also not very clear about the mother's fate. Is she still sick?? . Not a bad debut from Oyelowo.
