Pretty fun, lovable take on Zombieland, with huge mutant bugs instead of shuffling undead. Smoothly made and nicely played, with a funny supporting role by Michael Rooker. Unfortunately, lead actor Dylan O'Brien does not fully convince; he may be trying a little too hard. The plot is otherwise not very original and quite nicked together, but at least the film has an attractive visual approach and the monsters generally look spectacular.

Apparently I was totally in the mood for a movie like this. I give 4 stars. It's a bit of everything and there's a good balance between humor, drama, action and suspense. By drama I don't mean the level of Requiem for a Dream and in terms of tension it's not like blabla bla, you get my point now.

Nice/sympathetic characters and everyone was good in their role. And of course an honorable mention for the monsters. You can tell they put a lot of effort into this. And finally, 2 honorable mentions for the dog and the robot (Mav1s). This surprised me a bit, so I'm not going to spoil it.

It's actually a variant of Zombieland, but Monster Problems is a lot better than Zombieland 2 anyway!

4****

A very entertaining film that remains quite light-hearted despite the dystopian theme. Because of the simple storytelling (Joel has to go to his girlfriend's colony), the film offers a lot of space to offer the main character a lot of care and attention. Unfortunately, it's a bit of that. The other characters are portrayed quite briefly and remain fairly flat. Aimee is more of a MacGuffin in the story than an actual developed character and her screen time is quite short compared to her importance to the story. It feels like the reward isn't forthcoming and the choices are a bit rushed towards the end. In the end, the film delivers what you expect and I wasn't bored for a single moment.
