The Auschwitz Report plot

"They escaped hell... and now they must prove it"

True story of Freddy and Walter, two young Slovak Jews, who were deported to Auschwitz in 1942. On April 10, 1944, after careful planning and with the help and resilience of their fellow prisoners, they managed to escape. As the prisoners they've left behind bravely hold out against the Nazi officers, the two men are driven by the hope that their evidence can save lives. Emaciated and hurt, they make their way through the mountains back to Slovakia.

Very moving film about 2 Slovaks who escape from Auschwitz camp, I found the images in the camp particularly impressive, I found the escape itself somewhat simply depicted, all in all certainly a beautiful film in this genre

Solid film about the concentration camps, but I have seen better, more intense ones. I got the feeling throughout the film that they were not able to shed light on these events through a film. They had trouble placing the right emphasis, which made it somewhat inadequate as a whole. The film is divided into three parts, the first part of which had to give an impression of the camp. Then you have the escape and the flight, and finally the briefing to the Allies. None of the three 'phases' really impressed me. Not bad at all, but certainly not unforgettable either. It would have been better if they had expanded 1 or 2 phases with more depth and background, for example around the underlying dilemmas of the Allies, the still waiting transports from Budapest, among others, that were on their way to Auschwitz, .... The film would then have stuck better. Now it is rather superficial.

Oh, and to talk about those credits. Not a great approach I have to say. It does more harm than good and in my opinion undermines the message that was being tried to convey in the previous 90 minutes. This was not the time or the place to express this political message.

"I Escaped from Auschwitz" by Rudolf Vrba.
The best book I've ever read...!

The film description on Netflix immediately reminded me of that masterpiece, but looking at the running time this could never have been the film.
But because of my great interest in this history I definitely went to see the film, these films that are based on "true" facts are never bad and not even now.

When seeing the first scenes, it was immediately clear that this was indeed the film based on the book, how good!
But immediately also a disappointment.

The film starts suddenly, where the book already had several chapters before that point, which is a great pity.
Also, everything just happens, without any explanation, and that is really bad, because both are a considerable loss.

Where the film begins, the men are almost immediately hidden under the pallets, but no attention is paid to the forging of the plan, the big difference between Auschwitz I, Auschwitz II Birkenau, the "why there under the pallets", the reason for the stuff from the bottle that is quickly thrown over it and they also seem quite safe there and the dog and the German who walks by are just a passage. The worst thing is that it is not explained why they stay under there for 3 days before they flee. I also missed a patrol that had to release them on the way.

Also, despite the wear and tear, battles and wounds they sustained, the sequel seemed quite easy, only to be rushed towards the the revelation of their story.

Despite this, the film is certainly not bad, the acting is good and everything is also portrayed well, with a certain darkness.
Only when you have read the book do you immediately notice the major flaws, while the film makes you relive the book.

Ultimately far too little playing time and too many essential things left out, but still good!
