A slasher with a revenge motive that takes place in the Caucasus Mountains provides little tension, but plenty of entertainment and beautiful shots in desolate, chilly snow landscapes. The flashbacks provide no added value and take away from the pace of the film. The final scene with the snowman is a success. 6/10

The Ukrainian director Stanislav Kapralov seems to be more interested in the nature images than in the final thriller event, a resulting variation that is mainly handled unbalanced in Let It Snow. The film was shot in the Gudauri Mountains, a truly beautiful location within Georgia. Kapralov easily gets the most out of it, with precise and patient camera work as well as an almost perfect directorial calm to take in the landscapes optimally. Unfortunately, the spectacle within the relevant mountain range is considerably less interesting, but it goes wrong early on with the introduction of two particularly uninteresting figures. Kapralov then encounters unthreatening figures as well as a number of lame plot twists that hardly contribute to the end result. The tension is virtually absent and the substantive creativity is hard to find, meaning Kapralov doesn't get much further than filming a beautiful landscape for 86 minutes. I doubt whether the final story actually interested him at all, but that impression is not given to me.

Max [Alex Hafner] and Mia [Ivanna Sakhno] travel to Gudauri, a winter sports resort in Georgia, where they plan to snowboard from the infamous Black Ridge. The receptionist [Tinatin Dalikishvili] warns them that people die or go missing there, but Max and Mia ignore those warnings. They joke among themselves about the similarities between their hotel and the Overlook Hotel from The Shining. Well, that will of course cost them dearly. Due to fog, Mia and Max lose each other and then the trouble begins. The prologue makes it clear that there is a connection with the death of an 11-year-old girl [Mariam Sulakadze]. Atmospheric horror thriller with effective make-up by Dzhuliia Melnik that makes Mia's physical decline due to cold and exhaustion almost palpable. Unfortunately, the plot is a bit thin and the epilogue - halfway through the credits - was not necessary in my opinion.
