My Friend Fela plot
"Unlike any previous narrative about the Nigerian musical genius Fela Kuti"
This documentary offers a new look at the Nigerian musician Fela Kuti to counterbalance the story in which he is often portrayed as "an eccentric African pop idol from the ghetto". The complexities of his life are revealed through the gaze of his friend and official biographer, the African-Cuban Carlos Moore. The many influences that have shaped Kuti's life are made visible; from his relationship with his mother, to his many and troubled relationships with women, from the ties to his spiritual advisor, Professor Hindu, to the mutually influencing encounters with African Americans.
