Actually a very cool film: well dressed in style and era, good acting (from Norton and Baldwin in particular), good tone (engaged, but also a bit over the top with a wink), and a super good jazz score.

It's just a shame that the story just goes on and on! If this film had been an hour shorter I would have recommended it wholeheartedly, but the story is too thin and too weak to last that long.

Do you remember those TV-Series and movies with a private detective in which the main character also did the voice-over, well this is such a movie. The story is set in the 50s. It is about corruption, black-mail and power. Lionel Essrog (Edward Norton) searches for the killers of his best friend and boss. He gets more out of this than he thought. Edward Norton plays the stars of heaven in this film, and especially the Gilles de la Tourette tap he has is believable.

The scenes are therefore attractively filmed and every detail has been taken into account to revive the 1950s. I was immediately drawn into the story. It's not a fast-paced movie full of action, here it's more about the characters and the story. And with a cast like Bruce Willis, Willem Dafoe and Alec Baldwin who also brought more in this film than you are used to, (except Dafoe, who plays very well in everything) that says something about the script that was also written. is by Edward Norton and based on a book by Jonathan Lemme. The film also has an incredibly beautiful soundtrack with jazz music and a song by Radiohead's Thom Yorke. All in all I enjoyed the movie. So highly recommended!!

A slowly unraveling neo-noir with jazz clubs, private eyes and beautiful cars and with director Edward Norton himself in the lead role as a second-rate private detective with Tourettes. Totally my kind of film and we haven't seen such a fantastic attempt since Polanski's Chinatown okay Scorsese then maybe. Given the somewhat mediocre score for today's audience, apparently too little action, make me at least one such film a year and I am a satisfied movie fan.
