"Where there's a love, there's a way."
Theater director Charlie and actress Nicole are the ideal couple for many of their colleagues: they are married, have a wonderful son and thanks to their collaboration their theater company can play on Broadway for the first time. But their relationship ends when Nicole decides to leave New York for Los Angeles to star in a pilot for a television series and be closer to her family. Charlie and Nicole agree to end their marriage amicably, but when they can't work it out and lawyers take control, the situation quickly escalates.

Not very exciting.
Not surprisingly, too. Baumbach is far from my favorite director and with a theme like this it's pretty predictable which card he'll choose. Two actors who are very busy acting deeply emotionally and a director who either does not dare to intervene, or who has already fallen asleep halfway through the film.
The characters of Driver and Johansson never come to life, it is also difficult when the plot leaves little room for it. Because everything actually goes as expected. Two people who want to divorce each other and are "forced" to a fight divorce by the system (law and lawyers). At least, that's what Baumbach's rather simplistic view is in this story.
There are a few small moments that manage to escape this rather soulless drama, but otherwise the film runs smoothly for 132 minutes. Probably that recognizability plays a bit of a role for some, but I really couldn't see much interesting in it. A lot of predictable sentiment, disinterested direction and too easy drama.

Typical film that could possibly cash in on a few Oscar nominations. But is the movie really good? No, for me just an average film that slowly brings a simple divorce story to the viewer. Fortunately, the good acting really stands out so that you stay with the story. Still, I don't think the main characters will win the best actor or actress statuette. A film that for me is not worth a second viewing. 6/10

Been obsessed with this movie lately. Soundtrack album downloaded on iTunes. Gets me every time. For me personally not only the best movie of the year but the best movie of the past ten years. What an ultimate experience.
Interstellar at number two and Manchester by the Sea at three.
