David Crosby: Remember My Name plot

"Who are you when the lights have gone out?"

David Crosby was part of the group 'The Byrds' in the 1960s, and subsequently became an absolute well-known member with the group Crosby, Stills & Nash (& Young). Today, almost 80 years old and having traded dark hair for white locks, the 'Gandalf of Woodstock', despite several major surgeries, is still alive to tell us his impressive story.

Former music journalist (and producer of this film) Cameron Crowe first spoke to David Crosby in the early 1970s, right around the time Crosby released his critically acclaimed solo debut “If I Could Only Remember My Name…”. Crosby was one of the founders of the hugely influential rock band The Byrds, but was kicked out because his behavior (partly due to drug use) had become intolerable. In this candid documentary, the then 76-year-old Crosby readily admits that it's an absolute miracle he's still alive, but also that it's a miracle that at 72 he received a new wave of inspiration and that his fantastic voice has not been compromised through the test of time. Crosby was once a huge nuisance full of aggression, but thanks in part to the trust he clearly has in Crowe and director Eaton, he is remarkably level-headed, honest and sometimes even emotional about the many highs and lows of his career, as well as the consequences of his behavior and the choices he has made. It goes without saying that fans of Crosby, Stills (&) Nash (& Young) shouldn't miss this.
