"One love can change your life."
During a concert, musician Jeremy Camp catches the eye of the charming Melissa. He then does everything he can to win her heart and soon the two are inseparable. But just when luck seems to smile on the couple, Jeremy and Melissa face a huge setback.

Gary Sinise apparently can't afford the mortgage anymore; there's no other justification for his presence in this saccharine, often cringe-inducing "disease of the week" film. KJ Apa's acting talent matches the musical talent of Jeremy Camp, the character he plays. Just like the God Jeremy prays to frequently throughout the film —and, in the cheesy depths of this monstrosity, even involves his "fans"— doesn't exist.
The story may be "based on a true story," but it would have been utterly unwatchable without Britt Robertson's endearing performance as Melissa, the young woman Jeremy falls head over heels for. Incidentally, in the white universe of Bible Belt America, the only Black character is the man who only brings Jeremy and Melissa bad news. Tendentious and just as unbearable as the awful, syrupy songs that plague the soundtrack. High time for Robertson to make a decent film again.

If you can't stand EO-like scenes, you definitely shouldn't watch it. This is a Christian film, and they don't try to hide that. They also don't try to convince you, and that's what saves the film for me. It gives me a glimpse into how two deeply religious people deal with adversity, grief, and hope. Britt Robertson is fantastic, and KJ Apa is good enough. His singing is convincing. It's all a bit saccharine at times, as mentioned in an earlier review, but it's just not over the top. The scene where Jeremy Camp asks everyone to pray for Melissa during a concert touched me. Even if I don't share his faith in that way. The solidarity, the unwavering faith, the optimism. It's something to be jealous of at times. Why not five stars? Perhaps the film was a bit too long, sometimes it meandered a bit too much, and KJ Apa couldn't keep up with Britt's superb acting. But I enjoyed it. 3.5 well-deserved stars.

You get exactly what you expect: a simple love story between a singer and a girl. The girl isn't doing well, but despite everything, he keeps believing. Inspired by the truth of the RTL Wednesday night movie. Beautiful colors, beautiful pictures, and if you don't mind the Christian overtones, it's a pleasant watch. And who didn't immediately recognize Shania Twain?
