Summer camp has barely started for four young teens - Alex, ZhenZhen, Dariush and Gabriel - when they find themselves in bigger trouble than learning how to canoe and climb ropes. Aliens suddenly invade our planet. Alone at a campsite once crowded with people, the children are now unexpectedly entrusted with a key that holds the secret to stopping the invasion. With no adults or electronics to lead the way, it's clear what they need to do: work together, overcome their fears, and save the world.

Mmm, not very good. I was looking forward to some kind of Goonies movie, but I should have abandoned that idea. Luckily I didn't watch this with my kids, because this isn't a real children's movie. Made childish, because there is not much in it for adults. The target group is therefore completely lost. The film is based on a series of clichés and coincidences. The plot doesn't amount to much and is purely based on what already existed.
The very idea that only these children could save the world really makes no sense. The CGI isn't much to write home about and the kids were quite annoying. Such films should make children dream of being superheroes who save the world, but I don't think this film succeeds.
My curiosity has defeated me this time and this picture is not highly recommended. I wasn't bored, but I rarely do that with films, including this one.

Who cares why? This isn't Comic-Con, bitches.
I don't often start with quotes, but this one is very appropriate. McG is not very modest about his influences, but don't let them be more than that. Yes, this is another 80s movie with a gang of kids who are going to save the world, but that's where the 80s pleasing ends. McG just wants to make a fun movie.
You don't have to expect a lot of unnecessary explanation or background. That kind of nerdy nonsense only slows things down, something that doesn't bother this film much. It is certainly not too nice, something that many of those 80s vehicles have. I think a somewhat adult child can still enjoy this film, but in terms of monster design and (often insinuated) horrors it can still count.
The film also looks modern. Nice color filters, smooth camera work, humor that is surprisingly politically incorrect (and also very aware of it). It's just a very smooth film that clearly puts fun above everything else. There could be more of such films. Ultimately it is still a somewhat childish film, but one that is actually fun to watch.

Nice sci adventure. The story is simple and aimed at young viewers, although the 12 rating is appropriate. The effect is solid. The familiar paths are followed without deviating anywhere and being surprising. But the pace is nice and there is plenty of action and tension. Visually the film looks good with nice effects. The acting of the young players is quite okay. Simple, but entertaining. 3.0/3.5
