The Bay of Silence (2020)

Enjoyed this good thriller, directed by a Dutch man. Started without any prior knowledge or description. It takes quite a while before the story becomes clear, but the road to the denouement is well put together and well acted with an exciting atmosphere. Recommended.

The first half of the film is still reasonable, but gradually the cast fades away due to the very mediocre story that comes across as somewhat chaotic, vague and unrealistic. The twist at the end is also no surprise and you can see it coming from a long way away. The cast tries to make something of it, but the story is simply not interesting enough and lacks suspense to be considered a thriller. 5/10

Not a completely successful film, and that's a shame. Because the film is certainly atmospheric, and the locations are beautiful. Certainly some sympathy for the couple and the hope that they will work things out, but yes...not all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place for me. I didn't understand anything in particular about the ending, that is to say, that old man (what was his role again?) and the business with the photos. And of course there is more that is not properly explained in the film. Based on a story by Lisa St Aubin de Terán, who is known to often send you into a forest from which you cannot get out.
