Student and romantic Daniel Bae and Jamaican-born pragmatist Natasha Kingsley meet on a magical day in New York. Although born in the US, Natasha Kingsley [Yara Shahidi] is deported to Jamaica with her parents. A day before her forced departure, she desperately seeks help from lawyer Jeremy Martinez [John Leguizamo]. That same day, Daniel Jae Ho Bae [Charles Melton], who also has a migration background, turns out to have a job interview with that same Jeremy Martinez! Daniel sees Natasha at a train station, immediately falls for her, and convinces her to make a bet that will make her fall in love within an hour. Daniel is a hopeless romantic, but Natasha is very skeptical. How will this end? Despite the forced premise, this is a reasonably romantic drama, mainly thanks to the chemistry between the two charismatic leads. Love skeptics (like me) might shrug their shoulders at this, but the hopeless romantic will surely enjoy it.

A friendly film about young people with their fair share of troubles who literally bump into each other in Manhattan; the beginning of something beautiful. Plus: Yara Shahidi is a treat. The romantic in me was thrilled.
It's good that amidst all the spectacular action films there is also room for decent, charming films, although they are unfortunately few and far between.
