Weak. The film starts very well with beautiful atmospheric images of a sunny LA. It has a lot of visual power. But once the story starts, everything will collapse. Mediocre acting and none of the characters captivate. Somewhere you hope for an atmospheric portrait or a certain film to understand those people, but none of that. It's a film of successive scenes with some violence and the occasional superficial drama because it has to be, and that's it. The film is not alive and I couldn't do much with it. Fortunately still short. 1.5*.

The inclusion of Amber Heard and Jonathan Majors will probably be responsible for the particularly low rating on the internet, but it mainly shows that the major sites are also becoming less and less serious. Gully is not a perfect film, but atmospheric and convincing enough in enough areas to at least score higher than an average of 2.6/10. Overall, the acting is very solid (Jacob Latimore in particular is strong), the visual finish is good and there is enough going on to keep you interested. However, the unbalanced alternation between crime and drama is awkward, the former in particular being handled rather clumsily. The three main characters do such idiotic antics that every dramatic approach becomes ineffective and unfortunately director Nabil Elderkin puts a lot of effort into that. The screenplay also chooses to highlight far too many perspectives in too small a running time, which leads to the conclusion that the film simply takes on too much. A pity of course, but ultimately entertaining enough for an average grade.
