Disappointing.
A little too little insight into how and why prevented me from being immediately taken into the suspense. The ingenuity of the unveiling should make up for that, but then I've already had a good hour and a half where, if the tension doesn't grab me, I can see the intention and purpose of that tension a little dry.
It also doesn't help that the film interweaves that with a dose of humor that I couldn't place both in terms of content and timing. Gripped by the tension, I understand that the jokes give the necessary air. If not, they seem a bit strange and misplaced.
In the second half it becomes clear how the fork is in the stem and everything turns out to be in the service of a so-called political added value. For me, it does not mean that the run-up of loose sand suddenly changes into a carefully composed sand sculpture. There is even so specific leaning on those revelation(s) that Peele takes a lot of liberties when it comes to the interpretation. Not just what the human factor in the creation of that underworld was; the relationship of superhuman-underhuman is sometimes one-to-one, at other times fairly loosely fixed. Especially because they are also just real people, a lot of practical questions arise for me. The whole how-then is roughly sketched freehand, because the political metaphor is more important. But that metaphor only works for me if both layers are correct, each piece has its antecedent.
What remains is an atmosphere that can be quite catchy and dark - also supported by some creepy imagery, dosed lighting and a handful of beautiful shots - but in the end too volatile to completely grab you. Oh and I thought the trailer was so brilliantly designed. Maybe I was overjoyed and appreciate it a bit better the second viewing, but many here seem eager to ascribe it master status and I really don't see that. 2.5*

The cinematography and acting are good in Us. Somehow the film evokes sympathy through its style and atmosphere, which is why I liked the first half.
But I found the ending of the plot downright dramatic. The fact that this is a global event is not at all apparent. The concept just doesn't work well in my eyes; second-class people growing up in tunnels. One person's actions in one of those tunnels trigger a worldwide uprising? The earth is populated by twice as many people, half of whom live on rabbit meat? Where the hell do they get 7 billion overalls and scissors from? Even if it's all meant metaphorically...I don't like the lingering effect of this. Instead of layering, Peele creates a mess. In addition, the humor did not work well with the horror elements. Where the character in Get Out still makes sensible choices, it looks more like a kind of parody here. Peele is just trying to cram too much into one movie...

The first thing that strikes me is how annoying that father is. But the beginning of the movie does look nice, especially on the hall of mirrors at the fair, so I kept watching. It never gets scary though. Sometimes it even looks more like a comedy, with the stupid reactions of the family. For example, if the intruders are standing in the driveway of their house and the father says, "Huh, who is that? Oh, it's just a family standing outside. Ya'll scared of a family? It's probably the neighbours."[ /spoiler] And then the father of the other family: "Maybe it's a squirrel?" 
Why is the family so afraid of the invaders once they attack them? They only have scissors as a weapon. The father just lets his baseball bat be taken away. And once the invaders get in, they do whatever they're asked to do without fighting back. The actions of the people in this film are so illogical that it is disturbing. And then that 'uplifting' music underneath and the strange way of talking of that intruder woman and the zombie-like moaning of that man. It's all too ridiculous for words.
