All. Terribly. Nice. This film will put a lasting smile on your face.

Full of pleasure and the necessary peace, you see the Aimable Alexandre find the freedom he needs in this film.

The whole thing can be interpreted as a metaphor for our hasty society, and the perhaps increasing difficulty of 'slowing down'. Then let this film be an example.

A pleasure to watch, partly because of the über-sunny French landscape, the happy guppy Alexandre, the title song performed by Isabelle Aubert and the beauty of Marlène Jobert. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful women ever seen in a film. 4*

Starts off nicely, then seems to fade a bit, but from the moment Mrs Gartempe drives around the corner the film takes a very nice turn and I remained charmed until the end. It turns out that I have seen Marlène Jobert before, but only here has she made a real impression with her presque yeux verts. And the fact that I could identify with our Alexandre (as usual beautifully played by the great Philippe Noiret) also helped .

I want a dog like that too.

Philippe Noiret is clearly having fun, and the blessed Alexandre is also a very amiable character. An example for all of us actually, in the way he enjoys the little things around him and ignores the call of prosperity and capitalism. Not even the beautiful Marlène Jobert with her green eyes can get him back in line. And rightly so, I would also like to know - just relax and take the dog for a walk.

Perhaps above all a typical French farce that is overflowing with the obligatory amount of 'fun' situations that somehow always seem to be part of it. But still great fun, and not just because of the dog. It's amazing how the creature almost outclasses Noiret - that's quite something, because Noiret was without a doubt a deity in French cinema.

Furthermore, it is wallowing in the smell of the French countryside - the southern version of our typical Dutch Brussels sprouts smell, and immeasurably more pleasant. It makes me dream of the upcoming summer.
